The guide to not skiing in Shahdag
People go to Shahdag to mainly ski or snowboard. However, many aren’t interested in these activities or are currently dealing with an injury but still enjoy the mountains. Below, is a list of multiple activities that you can do both outside and inside, in hopes that you find something that you can find fun with.
Snowshoeing
As looking into the United States Snowshoe Association, apparently snowshoeing started in central Asia around 6,000 years ago. Native people in Alaska and Canada used snowshoes with wooden frames as footwear. In Azerbaijan travel, Shahdag has snowshoes for rent and instructors to take you on a large range of adventures. These hikes can be from 1.2 km (0.7 miles) or 3.8 kilometres (2.3 miles). However, you can walk around the lake or make your own path on fresh snow. This skiing alternative is quieter as you walk off the slopes, and gets you in the snow. You can also make your own paths or follow an instructor.
Ice Skating
Britannica posted an article on ice skating the article started with some history of ice skating. In Scandinavia, in 1,000 BCE the original ice skate was made out of the rib bones of an ox, elk and reindeer. Until 1850 the ice skate design stayed the same when E.W Bushnell of Philadelphia created the all-steel skate. According to Shahdag.az, there is an ice skating rink open from 9.00-17.00 (5.00). For 15 minutes, it’s 10 AZN, for 30 minutes it’s 20 AZN, and for an hour it’s 30 AZN. People from the age of 6 up can skate. While ice skating isn’t directly in the snow as snowshoeing is, it is a fun new sport if you haven’t tried skating before, and a great activity to do with friends.
Snowmachine
If you are looking for a less physically demanding alternative there are snow machine tours. You have the opportunity to drive on the snowmachine up to the top of Mount Shahdag after an instructor has taught you how to drive and operate the machines. This is a great and easy way to explore the mountain for a maximum price of 60 AZN.
Sledding & Snow Tubing
Sledding is a fun way of getting immersed in the snowy wonderland that Shahdag is. With no experience needed and a price of up to 6 AZN for snow tubing, snow tubing and sledding is a great activity for small children and a great fun way to relax.
Spas
No matter if you’re staying in Pik Palace, Park Chalet or Shahdag Hotel, you will be able to find a nice relaxing spa. The spa includes treatment and lounge areas, a Turkish hammam, Finnish saunas, an indoor pool with four different types of hydro massages, gym and yoga rooms. There is also an outdoor heated pool at Pik Palace.
Cinemas
Within Park Cinema, there is a new movie theatre in Shahdag, showing movies such as No Way Home and Moonfall. If you’ve been missing the cinema experience, this would be a great time to go and watch some movies.
From ice skating and sledding to movies and snowshoeing, there is something for everybody at Shahdag Ski Resort. What will you decide first?
